Valentine Subway Art + Free Silhouette Digital File!

I have just a slight obsession with subway art. I love creating them as much as I love hanging them around my house.

I don't normally decorate for Valentine's Day but with the growing obsession I just had this idea I had to make for the house.

It is much easier than you may think to create a custom subway art.
First I just thought of a bunch of Valentine's Day words.

I opened up my design program and sized my work area to the same size that the wood sign was going to be. I just typed the words out, changing the fonts for some of the words. I like the look of the bold fonts mixed with a script font.

Then I decided what colors I wanted to use and changed the words so that I could get a good look at what it would look like.

Then I grouped all the same color words together and cut them out all at once on the color vinyl.

Once they were done cutting, I weeded the excess vinyl. Weeding just means taking away all the vinyl around the cut out parts and discarding it, so you are just left with your design.

Then I cover the entire sheet with transfer paper. I take my scrapper tool and really press hard a few times, to make sure it will stick better to the transfer paper.

Once I have done that will all the colors I am cutting from, I then cut each word out so it is on a strip by itself.

By cutting them into individual strips this makes it so much easier to apply the words down the board.
I start with the top word and apply that. Take the clear transfer tape with the word on it and position it right where you want it on the sign. Again take your scrapper and go over the word a few times.

Then on to the next word in the next color.

When I designed this one I left a big open space so that I could attach some twine to the sign and hang some cute family photos from it.
So I went down the sign until the last word before the break. Then I wanted to make sure that I left the right amount of space, I then started down at the bottom and worked my way up the sign.

Then once I was all done adding all the vinyl words, I wrapped it with some red and white twine I had on hand and tied it on.

Then I took some clothes pins I had in my craft supplies and printed out some photos in black and white of my family, my kids and me and my husband.

This sign was so much fun, now I think I want to make more like it! This would be super cute as a gift for someone as well in colors to match their house. My Vinyl Direct has so many colors to choose from it would be easy to match anyone's decor.
